Harold suffered a stroke on Dec. 9th and then developed Pneumonia and passed peacefully at California Pacific Medical Center, Pacific Campus, in San Francisco, Ca. at the age of 84 with family present. Harold was born on July 17, 1928 in Pontotac County, in the town of Beebe, Oklahoma to his father David Franklin Humphers of Oklahoma and mother Sarah Era (Bowen) Humphers of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents David, Sarah Era, Brothers Lee, Othell, Eldred O. (Hoot), sister’s Naomi, June and his daughter Nancy. Harold is survived by Brother David & wife Rena, Sister Roberta & husband Budd Riley. Harold is also survived by his loving wife Lorelei, sons Danny & wife Sue, Richard & wife Kristi, Greg & wife Sharron, & deceased daughter Nancy, and 8 grandchildren, Scott, Megan, Amber, Adam, Nino, Andrea, Erica and 12 great grandchildren Endya, Ethan, Danny Ann, Jack, Braydon, Weston, Era, Evo, Austin, Cole, Jamie, Chloe. Harold & Lorelei married in Berkeley, California on Dec. 25, 1947. Lorelei was born in Danville, Illinois on Aug.9, 1930 and is 82 years old. This year Harold and Lorelei would have been married for 65 yrs, on Dec. 25, 2012. Harold moved from Oklahoma, out to Salinas California, Berkeley, California and also San Pablo, California when he left Oklahoma. He finally settled on settling down in a town called Richmond, California for 53 years with his wife Lorelei. They have made many friends along the way and have a lot of family all who have been blessed and touched to have them in their life. Harold moved to California in 1943 at the age of 15 years old and he tried to join the Armed Forces at 17 but his mother Sarah stopped him for being a minor so he worked in the shipyards of Richmond, California to help in the WWII efforts. At the age of 19 he joined the Operating Engineers Local Union #3 was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder for Independent Construction Company. In 1986 he was issued his Honorary Life Membership "Gold Card" and he became a 50 year member in 1997. He retired as a 63 year member in 2012, left for a brief 3 years to open Humphers Auto Service with his brother Lee where they did complete automotive services. To include truck Repair, Tune-up, Welding & Brake services, Humphers Auto service was located at 2250 Broadway in San Pablo, Ca. from early 1956-1959. He then went back to work for Independent Construction Company. Harold was an active member of Nascar & Bay City Racing Association where he & his brother Lee were active in the Midget & Hardtop divisions. Where as a co-owner with Lee and an occasional driver and his brother Lee won some Championships and one year they had won 3 track Championships in the same year at Pacheco, Vallejo & Petaluma Speedways and Lee was then offered a ride in an Indy race car of prominent California promoter J.C. Agajanian in 1961. Harold also enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, hunting and fishing with family & friends. He was a very caring and loving husband and father that would always put his family first! He was one of the hardest working men you could know and he always said, "If it was put together it could be taken apart to repair what was broken" and he also would say, "Don't start something unless you can finish it!". Harold being the generous man he was, donated his body to Medical Science so there will be no funeral services but there is a "Celebration of Harold's Life" being planned at this time and notices will be forthcoming.
